OTHER EVENTS

Other Events

Whilst the two main events for the Society remain the Tour and the Whelan, throughout the years, various ad-hoc events have also taken place.
Initially this was mainly a summer event, but in more recent years we held a Xmas event, which has proved to be very successful.
As these were generally considered more social events than with major prizes no data was collated until '09.

Bowood Charity Event - 2010

As part of Stockers Captains duty at Bowood Park in 2010, he invited HOGS members to play in his charity day.
As a result, 9 members travelled to Cornwall for a 'mini tour', playing Bowood on the Sunday, St Enodoc on the Monday and then the charity event on the Tuesday.
The weather on the Sunday and Monday, whilst not fantastic was fair and we had two great rounds, but unfortunately on the Tuesday the weather turned and tried to ruin the day. It rained (deluged) pretty much all day, and very heavily at that, to the extent that one HOGS group decided at the 12th enough was enough and walked in!!!
However, this made little difference to the events true goal of raising money for the Captains nominated charities, and in the end over £5,000 was raised on the day. Thanks to Allan and Felicity for hosting the barbecue on the Sunday and Allan for finding the most expensive restaurant in Cornwall for the Monday!!
In particular thanks to all those members listed below for travelling;

Warney, Glithers, Sir Nobby, Scotty, Dave Redgrave, Chappers, Tony Jerman, Nick Balnave & Tricky

Christmas - 2011

2011 Xmas event was held on Wednesday 29th at Scotty’s home course, East Herts GC. A fantastic turn out of 20 members were then treated to a great day, with fabulous weather for the time of year, a course in excellent condition and excellent food. It was great to see so many turn up for what has now become an  annual event and whilst obviously dependent on the weather (2010 had to be postponed) it was a great way to blow away the Xmas cobwebs.
We played a pairs event with better ball scoring, and as you can see, local knowledge and a bandit handicap (you can figure out which) meant the rest of us were always struggling, but congratulations to Tommo and Kevin for a great score.
